Setting Base calendar

I have created a project plan with standard calendar.
Now I have created a new calendar for our company with saturdays as working
days.
I have changed the calendar for the project by clicking project--project
infm--calendar.
But there are no changes at all in the schedule.
In the Gantt chart also saturday seems to be a holiday.
Why is this happening?
How do I set the newly created calendar as the base calendar for my project?

Hi,

The Gantt chart shows the Standard calendar by default. Double-click the
Gantt Chart's timescale and select the non-working time tab. Select your
base calendar there and Saturday should show as working.

Your task start and finish dates should already include the working time in
your calendar. If you have resources assigned to tasks, then view the
Resource Sheet and set the resource calendar to your 6 day calendar as well.
