Setting Critical Tasks text red in Gantt View

I selected my entire project, then selected Format, Font, and in the Color
menu, selected Automatic and OK. All the text turned black. (Before doing
this, some but not all of the critical path tasks were partially or
completely red.)

Then I selected the entire project, Format, Text Styles, Critical Tasks in
the "Item to Change:" box, then Red, then OK.

I expected the text for the critical path tasks to turn red, but all the
text remained black - even all the critical path tasks.

Next, I selected the entire project, Text Styles, All in the Item to Change
box, and Automatic in the Color box, followed by Critical Tasks and Red, and
OK. All the text remained black. When I open the Text Style box, it claims
the Critical Tasks text should be red, but it isn't. When I select an
individual critical task, and look at the font, it is set to Automatic. What
am I missing, and how do I fix it?

You have set exceptions to the text so that the styles no longer apply.
Select the columns you want to change and select Edit-Clear-Formats. This
will revert to using the defined styles.
