setting new defaults

I am using Publisher 2007 (recently upgraded from Pub 2000 that I
almost never used).

I don't use the wizard. I like to start with a blank page with 1/2"
margins (I know how to set those), and a specific set of layout guides
(I know how to set those too).

Is there a way to permanently establish this somewhere so that when
Publisher starts, my blank page is there waiting for me and the wizard
is closed?

I've seen talk of a "normal.pub" but no such animal exists on my
system ;-(

You can begin on the main screen if
you go to...Tools / Options...uncheck...
"Show Publication Types when starting
Publisher" / OK.

I'm sure there are some advanced
ways to perform the task you require
but I would suggest setting up a page
exactly the way you want it and save it
as Template.pub. Left clicking the file
will open it all ready to go in Publisher.

I've already done that... doesn't work.

While I don't get the screen with all the choices, I still get the
wizard.

Are you using Pub2007?

What wizard are you referring to?

I call whatever that is on the left of my screen "the wizard". I have
to close it, and that's a pain <g>,

The Wizard will not close... You can resize it to pretty small and drag it to
another are of your screen. I don't know why the Publisher developers decided we
needed the task pane always available. When you do need it, drag it back to the
upper left corner, it will expand. Pull it off again and it will stay small.
When you open Publisher the task pane will be where you left it.

Ok...that's the Task Pane and I don't
know a way to permanently disable it.
Typing...Ctrl+F1...will toggle it on and off.

Mary's suggestion to drag it out of view works like a champ.
