Shared Projects

Is it possible to share a project file so multiple users
can use the same project file at once (similar to Shared
Workbooks in Excel)

Hi,

Only the first user opening a project file from a .mpp or a database can
have read/write access. All subsequent users get read only.

Only solution is to break the project into sub projects so each sub-project
manager can edit their own tasks and keep a consolidated project of all the
sub-projects for the overview.

Hi DC,

Welcome to this Microsoft Project newsgroup :)

It's possible, though each user will need a licensed copy of Project. Even
then, only one person at a time can open a file read/write, the remainder
can only have read access - this is to prevent multiple updates occurring at
the same time and possibly corrupting the database. On the other hand, you
could upgrade to Project 2003 professional and provide and enterprise wide
facility. If these are not options, Microsoft does not provide a viewer,
though various options/alternatives are described in FAQ Item: 16. Project
Viewer.

FAQs, companion products and other useful Project information can be seen at
this web address: http://www.mvps.org/project/

Hope this helps - please let us know how you get on:)
