shortcuts take a long time to open when inserting pictures.

Hello,
I have office2003sp1 with winxpSP2. I have shortcuts to
network folders on my desktop. When I try to insert a
picture and go through the desktop shortcut, word hangs
for 30sec or so before it opens the folder. If I go
through the network drive it is ok.

Any ideas.....
