Howdy gang..

Is there any way in Entourage 2008 to show the "From" field in an outgoing message, so that it can be edited?

Our organization utilizes delegates and send-on-behalf-of quite a bit as well as allowing the same user to have multiple e-mail addresses, and short of editing the account info each time you want to send an e-mail, I don't see any way to alter the "from" value in an outgoing message. Can anyone confirm that it is not possible to change the "From" value?

You would need to create new accounts for any delegates you want to send
from. You can then select the appropriate account from the menu that will
make itself available.

If you don't want to receive email on those accounts, set them up as POP
accounts and leave the receiving info blank. You will need an SMTP server,
however (which might be enabled on your Exchange server).

Let's say that my company publishes two magazines and we have one internal AD forest/domain. Any user in AD will thus have valid external e-mail addresses in the form (e-mail address removed) as well as (e-mail address removed), both of which get routed to their one Exchange mailbox. Sometimes that user will want to reply as (e-mail address removed) and other times as (e-mail address removed). Since it is all the same Exchange mailbox, wouldn't it be unwieldy to create multiple accounts pointing to the same Exchange mailbox?

I think I have my answer, though it is clearly not the one I was hoping for...

Yes, that's why I'd recommend setting up a send-only POP account.

It also might be possible to AppleScript a change to the email address
field, but someone else will have to chime in.

Entourage can only utilize one address when sending through Exchange as
an Exchange account. Separate send-only POP accounts would be the only
workaround provided that the Exchange Server administrator would allow this.

I'm not sure I understand what you mean. Using Entourage, I can send 'From'
any of the SMTP addresses assigned to my Exchange account.

But Entourage has no ability to allow you to enter multiple addresses
for an Exchange account (the account you set up in Entourage). The
account has only one field for an "E-mail address".

Right, my point was that you might be able to use an AppleScript to automate
the change to the email address field.
