Show/Hide button not working right

My Show/Hide button is clicked On but not showing codes like its suppose to.
It shows when I have nothing on sheet when i hit enter, but when i type
something it won't show at all? Help, Lori

What are you expecting to see? Word does not use codes like Word Perfect. It
is a style based application.
