Simple drawing => exploding files size

Hi, I am using Word 2003

I have created a simple chart using autoshapes in Word.
It consists of 10-15 shapes with connectrors and about 20 - 25 text boxes.
In addition I have added a simple table in the header and in the footer.

Still the file size is ~100MB

Does anyone know or think they know why this happens.

Hi Øyvind,

I'm not able to replicate the problem.

Starting with a new, blank document, what
are the steps you're using to create your chart?

If you use File=>Save As and save to a new file
name (using the 'Word Document' file type)
do you get the same file size ?

yes, same file size if I use save as...

I started with a new, blank document.
The steps I use is to insert objects from the draw toolbar_autoshapes by
selecting the shape I want and placing it using the mouse cursor. Then I have
connected the shapes I want with connectors from the toolbar_autoshapes. When
I'm done with the drawing I have grouped them by selecting all shapes and
right click => group.

Then I have inserted a number of text boxes and placed them on different
places in the chart. Some text-boxes are similar or alike, and those I have
copied and pasted a couple of times.

Hi Øyvind ,

Hmmm. If you're using the active 'blue dot to blue dot'
connectors in Word then you'd be in the MS Drawing Canvas
when creating the chart.

See if starting Word while holding down the ctrl key
(Office safe mode), creating a new document then using
File=>Save As and choosing 'Word document' as the file
type (check your default save format and setttings,
including the 'embed font' setting
in Tools=>Options=>Save) gives you a smaller file.
If not, you may want to zip and email me one of the files
where you're seeing this happen.

What is the build/version number of Word in Help=>About?
Are both the Windows and Office versions English language
ones?
