Slow keyboard during save dialog

When saving a document to a network share, using any of
the Office applications, the keyboard is very slow when
typing in the file name to save. The problem only occurs
when saving to a network share; local saves are fine. The
user can often finish typing the file name before the
characters appear in the save as dialog. We are using
Office 2000 with SP 3.

Check out the following article.

This can occur If the AutoComplete feature in Microsoft Internet Explorer
is turned on. This feature tries to match the characters in the File name
box with the entries in the Recent folder that is used by Office. This
process may cause the slow response.

Thanks. I had a look at that, and the user does not have
the AutoComplete feature active. Can you think of
anything else that may cause this?

Here is some things to try and check:

=> This can occur if the Recent folder for Office has too many objects in
it.

Resolution: Delete the contents of "%UserProfile%\Application
Data\Microsoft\Office\Recent" folder.

Try disabling the AutoComplete feature. Set the value to No

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\9.0\Common\GeneralUse
AutoComplete

=> What version of WIndows is the client PC and server?

If it is Win98, check out the following
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=326364

=> Do you have the AppData redirected? If so check out the following.

Q249948 - Autocomplete Is Very Slow When AppData Has Been Redirected
http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/q249/9/48.asp

=> Also do you have NAV installed? If so try the following.

Unregister the Norton AntiVirus Officeav.dll add-in. To do
this, follow these steps:

1. Click Start and then click Run.
2. In the Open box, type the following command, and then click OK:

regsvr32 /u "c:\program files\norton antivirus\officeav.dll"

If the command is successful, you see the message "DllUnregisterServer
in
C:\Program Files\Norton AntiVirus\OfficeAV.dll succeeded."

Hope this helps.
