Slow response on open

I have Office XP. I updated my OS from Win2000 to WinXP
and noticed a significant increase in the response time
in opening emails. My laptop has 512K RAM and enough
disk space available. I have tried both using Word as
editor and not using it and the response it's the same.
Do you have any suggestions? Thanks,

Try disabling the Messenger integration;
Tools-> Options-> tab Other
