some very basic questions

Hi. I am completely new to using MS Project, so please forgive me if
these questions are too basic. I couldn't find answers in the online help.

I'm using MS Project Professional 2002 (10.0.2002.0502) on Windows 2000.

I've created a very basic Gantt chart. The first 12 columns represent 12
months of a given fiscal year. The next 4 columns denote the quarters of
the following fiscal year. I don't know how to get the headings (tiers?)
of the Gantt chart to reflect this. The nearest thing that I can seem to
get is to have the top tier say "2004" and then "2005" and the next tier
to list either all months or all quarters--I can't find a way to break
this up so that months are listed in the first 12 columns and quarters
are listed in the final 4 columns. Is there a way to do this?

Also, I need to port this Gantt into a Word file. In Project, I am
selecting and copying the tasks; in Word, I'm using "Paste
Special/Linked Project Document Object". This is great, but it grabs the
entire set of columns (which seem to extend for a long time--long beyond
when my project ends).

Is there any way to grab only a portion of the columns? I don't quite
know how to drag the selection (in Project) to the right to have it stop
highlighting the columns...it appears that I can only select items in
the Task Names column. Is this right? How can I make a more specific
selection?

Alternatively is there a way to force the Gantts to end before, say, 2011?

No possible. The scale must be the same. Having one scale is normal
practice for a "graph" which a Gantt Chart is. Suggest you pick

- Years for top tier,
- Quarters for middle tier, and
- Months for bottom tier.

That way people can "think" in either months, quarters, or years.

Don't do it this way ... see next.

Make the Gantt Chart show on screen want you want, the press the
"camera" icon on the toolbar to copy to clipboard. There you will find
settings. Copy/Paste into Word.

Read the article "Copy a Microsoft Project picture into another program
or a Web page" in Project's Help.

See the camera icon.
