Something's trying to install into Office

I recently had some spyware/adware that AdAware got rid of,
but since then whenever I open outlook, word, excel, or
trying to save a word doc and various other triggers, a MSI
windows pops up saying its "Preparing to install". Then it
says "Please wait while Windows configures Microsoft Office
XP Small Business". Then it errors out because it can't
find the CD-ROM and prompts me to insert the CD. What I
want to know is what is trying to be installed. Is there a
way to find out what feature is trying to be installed?

Are you sure that Word is not trying to install some feature that you
left out of the installation and marked it as "run from CD" or "install
on first use"? This described in the install instructions.

Hope this is useful to you. Let us know.

Yea, pretty sure, but even if it was a feature marked as CD
or install on first use, how can I find out what it is.
Also what feature would be trying to install whenever I
save a word document?

Assuming it could be a spyware/adware program or
something, could it be unsafe to do so?

If not done already, check for malware (virus, spy-bot, worms, etc.)
with the appropriate tools.

If you have one of these nefarious programs ... you guess is as good as
mine as to what will happen.

Suggest:
1. check out the machine. act accordingly.
2. run the setup program and check what you told Office to install.

Hope this is useful to you. Let us know.

Hi SRDaniel,

If you removed some software then you may have triggered the built in Self Healing features of Office and the MS Installer (MSI).
You may want to try a repair reinstall from the Microsoft Office listing in Addd/Remove Programs in the Windows control panel.

You can review the installer logs by using Start=>Run and typing
%TEMP%
there. Depending on your settings or the features its working with
the logs may not be detailed enough or may use some detailed internal
messages that aren't always readily understood by humans :)
