sort and headings on form from imported table

Trying to create a form using a linked table (from text
file). The headings I create don't show up (the heading
space is missing) when I run the form. Also, the sort
icon is not visible when I edit my form, so I can't sort
by any of the table columns. Help please... I tried a
form from a normal database table and their is no
problem. Is there a rule against sorting and supplying
column header information on a form from linked table?
