Sound Clip - Worked Before, Not Anymore

Hi everyone, I have a presentation file in powerpoint that when i made it, i
put in a sound clip.(about 5 megs). It used to work fine before sp2, I just
checked it over and tried playing it and now it doesnt work...would it be
because of sp2? I tried deleting the sound file, and adding a new 1 by
inserting it but it would say, "Powerpoint cannot insert the selected sound
file". I never had this problem before so why is it happening now? Thanks
for anyhelp and replies

Well, since you said it worked fine before SP-2, I wondered which SP-2 you
were talking about. And to tell the truth, I still don't know, as "sp-2"
isn't a product. So I'll assume you do mean Windows XP SP-2.

Have you installed any other software?

When the sound files used to work, was that in the same version of PPT? I
ask because there are some issues with some sound files play/animation
settings coming from PPT 97/2000 to PPT 2002 (aka PPT XP) and 2003.

Windows XP SP-2 I believe renders useless some questionable codecs. You
could be having a problem there. Test your file in mplay32.exe as described
at http://www.soniacoleman.com/Tutorials/PowerPoint/multimedia.htm Does the
sound file play there? If not, you'll probably need to make the registry
changes also described in that tutorial.

what kind of clip is this?

wma?
mp3?
wav?

You may also want to reinstall the latest version of directx if it is wma or
you might want to check if its drm causing the issue, what happens when you
play them in
start -> run -> mplay32

lost?
