Sound Set in Entourage 2008 Gone?

To be honest, this bug doesn't surprise me. I used to work with QA at a video game publishing company and this would not be what they call a "show stopper" or an "A" bug.
Since it doesn't affect the program working it is acceptable to ship and fix with a patch later. Not a perfect world, but that is what you get when you can go online and download updates. Even more reason not to buy a fresh release (being the hypocrite that I am as I type this on the new program. :)

I also had this problem with the beta which i thought it was because its beta. so to shed out this money and purchase the full package is really annoying to say the least.
what more can i say other than THATS MICROSOFT FOR YOU?
looks like im gonna have to go back to 2004 for now, if Microsoft can't sort a simple problem like this before final release what else is wrong, i've heard just to many issues?

I gonna install a clean 10.5 on my other mac pro (currently running 10.4.11 and the sound works fine on office 2008) just to confirm if its a leopard and 2008 compatibility problem and will let you know in due course.

Removed ³sent mail² sound....nothing changes; no notifications yet.

It seems to me that the whole lower part of the notifications/sound
preferences panel is not clickable (this is another issue of course).
I cannot click loudspeaker icon to test sound; cannot change sound set; alco
cannot launch the web address of microsft mac dept. which is in the lowest
part of the panel.

Did you try quitting and restarting the app after disabling the Sent Mail
sound?

Hi,

I¹ve also been working to repro this issue as well, I have found you need to
turn off the following Sound notifications and things seems to continue to
work on Leopard.
Sent mail sound
Mail error sound
No mail sound

You need to quit Entourage and restart for the sounds to return.

In the quick testing I did, I noticed that each of these options prevents
further sounds from working in Entourage.

To answer these issues.
1. The sounds not working in the preferences pane is part of the general
issue with notification sounds, same code path and once they stop working it
also stops in the prefs pane. Also the startup sound does not cause this
problem to occur, see my other mail for all the ones that do.
2. Correct about the link at the bottom of the page, I will pass this along.
3. This is populated by sound sets found in: ~/Documents/Microsoft User
Data/Entourage Sound Sets

Sorry to bother, but... The problems is still there also disabling these
three sounds.
But I have a notification (in addition to the startup sound) working on new
email upon FIRST CHECK!
Then SILENCE!!!

In my previous message I already answered about the fact that disabling the
three sounds as you suggested does not solve the problem (at least for me).

I want to point out (don¹t know if it is useful and sorry if I understood
wrong but english is not my mother language) that I have no sounds at all
nor any file in ~/Documents/Microsoft User Data/Entourage Sound Sets.

Bill's input fixed my sound notification issue:

While this isn't a major issue, I am in another part of the office and I rely on the audible notification for new messages so I don't have to go back and check every few min.

Anybody have any thoughts?

Unlike Entourage 2004, Entourage 2008 now uses the Mac OS X system's
Alert Volume setting instead of the Output Volume setting.

Be sure both are turned up in your Sounds preference pane.

Hope this helps!

Now if there was just a way to get the simple little helpful "out of office assistant" with the home/student edition (I too quickly bought the 08 version anticipating this little added feature, but alas...).

On a Powerbook G4 with 10.5.1. Sounds don't work at all as described -- no preview, no notifications. And just this morning before I installed I was thinking how annoying those sounds were. Guess Microsoft must have been listening to me. I get a doink when it recieves no mail, then nothing after.

Hi Jason!

This is a known issue acknowledged by Microsoft in this very forum. Have
a look at a blog post I put up a few hours ago
<http://blog.entourage.mvps.org/2008/01/alert_sounds_in_entourage_2008_break_on_leopard.html>.

Hope this helps!

FYI: The Alert volume setting in System Preferences > Sound > Sound Effects is all the way up for me. The problem still exists. First sound on launch is played, then nothing.

I has the same issues i.e. no sounds after upgrading from 2004 to
2008, and I simply solved the issue by quitting Entourage 2008,
trashing the "Entourage Sound Sets" folder inside the "Microsoft User
Data" folder. Upon opening back Entourage 2008, a new "Entourage Sound
Sets" folder was created, and all my sounds are now back!
