Spaces added to comments when forwarding messages

We are running outlook 2000 on windows 2000 using exchange
5.5 and are experiencing the following on one pc:

When forwarding an email message and tries to type within
the body of the original message, it is adding extra
spaces before, after and in the middle of what is typed.

We have de-selected "mark my comments with" for the user,
but it still does this. Does not behave this way on other
pc's. Did it to me when I logged on and set up email for
myself also. Tried deleting all profiles and letting them
be re-created and it still behaved this way.

Tried changing email format from html to rich text (and to
plain text), repairing outlook, re-installing outlook,
removing and re-installing, reparing after the re-install;
all to no avail. The only time I could get it to quit
behaving this way was when we chose plain text as the
format for messages, but then all the format is lost
within the messages.

I have checked the knowledge base and tried some things it
suggested (such as checking the insert key) even though
they didn't exactly match our circumstances, but they
didn't fix this behavior.

The user wants to avoid having to redo all of the
customizations they have created in outlook and other
programs on the pc, so we are trying to find a way to fix
this behavior instead building a new pc.
