Am receiving inordinant amount of junk mail in my email
account am unable to find way to block this mail, any
suggestions would be appreciated.

I find that creating a rule to move all inbound email to a folder called
"Unknown Originator" except when the sender is in my contacts to be very
effective at separating the stuff I want to see from the rest.
You need a few extra rules to catch organisations that use dynamically
generated origins, but it's not difficult.
You need Office XP or beyond for the "in contacts" selector.
