Spell check and custom dictionaries

I'm trying to understand how Spell Check works in Visio
(Office XP). It doesn't seem to do what it says it does.

1. "Use Microsoft Word dictionaries" is enabled. I have a
Custom.dic in the Visio folder and a Custom.dic in a
separate folder for Word, so two Custom.dics in the list
of active dictionaries makes sense. I'm not sure Visio
applies the Word one during Spell Check, though.

2. Even though Visio allows you to add other
dictionaries, it doesn't appear to use them. I added a
dictionary that's on our network drive. Visio seems to
ignore it. I tried removing it, moving a copy into the
folder where Visio's Custom.dic resides, and adding that.
Visio still seems to ignore it.

3. Visio doesn't appear to consistently check words that
start with a capital letter. When I intentionally mis-
spelled a name as a test, if it was upper case, Visio
didn't always seem to search for a correction. If it was
lower case, Visio searched, but did not suggest the
correct spelling. I tested for names in the company
dictionary I created and for names that are in the Word
Custom.dic but not the Visio Custom.dic. I see no option
to enable/disable whether to search capitalized words,
although there is an option for words with numbers in
them.

Can someone please help me sort out what's happening? My
goals are:

1. Attach the company dictionary on the network drive and
have it work.

2. If I can't have 1, have Visio use both the Visio and
Word Custom.dics.

3. At least have a thorough understanding of Visio's
Spell Check limitations and what I *can* expect it to do
consistently.

Thank you very much for any help you can offer.
