I assume by "faint" you mean that the tab for the S&G menu in Preferences is
greyed out and you cannot click on it?
There have been a few other reports of this problem...since they were mostly
very short threads, it appears that the standard troubleshooting efforts fix
this, although no one came back to confirm exactly which one.
So go here, pick the appropriate troubleshooting link for your version, and
work through the suggestions:
