Spider webs ??

Bob

Hi all,

If you have used FP, you have probably used the screen
that shows the spiderweb-like layout of a web, with one
page centered in the middle of the screen and all the
hyperlinks fanning out around it.

My question is does nayone know of software that will do
this for another application, such as to show inter-
rationships between things other than web pages.

Say I'd like to build such a display for a family tree,
where each node would be a person in the family linage and
as you clicked on each one that person would be shifted to
the center of the display and all the relationships with
other people through time would fan out in the spiderweb
like display.

Ever heard of such software? I know there are plenty of
family tree applications out there but am just starting to
look and would like to have such a feature, especially if
it could be saved as a web page and then posted to a
website.

As I said, I am aware of the many family tree software
packages, I do not think these will accomplish what it is
I want to do. The application I have in mind has a layout
similar to a family tree but it is not for
tracking/plotting a family linage.

I need something that can query a database (SQL, DB2,
etc.) and build the spider shaped plot, with each node
being a hyperlink to more data and when clicked on shifts
that node to the center of the spider web.

A simple example below, but would need to be virtually
unlimted (thousands) in the number of nodes and support up
to a dozen interconnecting links between nodes.

NODE1<------------>NODE2
\ / \
\ / \
\ / \
\ / \ NODEx
\ / \ /
\ / \ /
\ / \ /
NODE3--------------NODE6
/ \ / \
/ \ / \
/ \ / \
/ \ NODE7 \
/ \ / \ NODEy
/ \ / \ /
/ \ / \ /
NODE4<------------>NODE5 \ /
\ /
NODE8

Where for instance if you click on any NODE it becomes the
'center of the universe' so to speak and all relationships
to that NODE are then shown, with maybe the path taken to
reach the new central NODE shown highlighted somehow to
trace the path taken to get to reach NODE.

This application needs to eb functional over a corporate
LAN or the WWW.

This company [1] had a product that functions exactly the way
you described. You can also search through Knowledge
Management World [2] for other enterprise product vendors
who have developed sophisticated applications.
