Splitting task by percentage

Hello everyone,
I have a pipe detail that the shop can work on it until so long until they
need the equipment to do their final work. So, the piping can be complete to
a certain percentage then it comes to a halt until the arrival of the
equipment.

Anyways, what can I do to tell project that I want certain percentage of the
task to split and that split to be placed lets say equipment arrival
ff+2days.

thank you

Let me see if I understand your question correctly. You have a machine
available and it is assigned to a task. You can continue to use this machine
until demand moves the machine to another task. Once the machine comes
available again, you can finish the work.

If these are known start/end points, then I would just add more detail to
the schedule. That is, rather than "Build Pipe" 20 days. You could make
some more detailed tasks that can run either serially or in parallel: Cut
tube, mark welds, build flange, connect flag, weld joints 1 and A. Etc.
Now, you can break out your "Machine" resource when the more detailed tasks
show of availabitliy. It becomes a matter of linking. Generally, stopping
work on a task and restarting is a bad thing as it incurrs additional cost.

If this is not possible, it essentially becomes a dynamic task and you have
to manually split the tasks on the fly during a regular update cycle.
