Staffing a resource to multiple projects

While there may be some process issues with this scenario, is there a way to
staff a single or multiple resources to > 1 projects from the same web page?
In other words, not having to open each project / activity resource plan and
allocate at a per project basis? Perhaps an add on or other method? I
suppose this could be done in Project Pro but not without some potential
issues.

Someone told me they use a .mpp file on a share drive that contains the
'resources' and other projects on the same share drive link back in to
this one.

But yes, I think you should use Project Server for this kind of
functionality, because this is why we are implementing it now. This
method apparently was not actively maintained by the PM's so had limited
value.
