Standard toolbar "Find" is strange

When I use the standard toolbar find button (the one that says "type a
contact to find" it ALWAYS returns "OUTLOOK COULD NOT FIND THE REQUESTED
CONTACT"

If I use the advanced find this works well, any ideas?
