I have changed startup and templates folders to the following location
c:\templates and c:\startup. I run a batch file to delete the files in
these folders when a user logs on and to re-copy the files from a
network drive k:\startup and k:\templates. In the file locations in
word I change the folders to c:\startup and c:\templates. The reason
for copying the templates is that when templates are updated on the
network the user gets the new templates at logon or a batch file icon
on each desktop. This has worked well for me for the past four years.
Unfortunately on a specific user machine this doesn't want to work.
Today it reads the .dot files from the c:\startup folder, two weeks
down the line it ignores those files although the file locations are
still set to the same location. I then create a new folder on his c:
drive called startup1 and place those files in there. This works for
approx. 2 weeks and then I am back to the same problem. I then create a
startup2 folder, copy the .dot files there, change the file locations
and that works for 2 weeks again. And so the evil process continues. It
never ever wants to work again from startup or startup1 and eventually
startup2 then I need to create startup3 and change file locations to
that. Has anyone ever come across this and how can it be fixed. That
specific computer has been reformatted, OS is XP Professional with
Office XP.
