Still getting error message trying to activate Outlook

Hello, again, fellow Microsoft users.

I ended up using the phone number to activate Office Home and Student. Went
through the entire process--keyed in the seven batches of numbers on my
screen as well as the seven groups of numbers the mechanical lady
provided--and clicked "enter". There was no error message, so the mechanical
lady said my activation was successful. But, when I open Outlook I get the
screen asking for my Product Key. When I type in that, I get the dang error
message again. ("Wrong product key" blah, blah, blah.)

Am I activated, or not?? Will I lose functionality in Outlook after my
remaining four uses? Can anyone help?

Me again.

I realize that I have a Outlook Express on my computer (on the hard drive,
anyway), but it's not functioning. Could that be confusing the new Outlook?
Odd how I supposedly got activated by phone, but am still getting the
activation/configuration prompt when I launch Outlook.

I reviewed the instructions provided by Microsoft in the article posted
under support (..../kb/919895). When ahead and deleted the .dat file, but
that didn't resolve the issue with Outlook. So I called the 866 #. Still
stumped....

Outlook Express is part of IE & the o/s
Outllook is a completely seperate application
Did you have a trial of office installed, & did you install from cd?

DL,

Here is what I know: The computer came with IE and Outlook Express. I seem
to recall that OE was supposed to be a trial offer.

I had to purchase the Office Suite, which is fine. As I mentioned before, I
eventually got most of that activated. But I'm still encountering a bugaboo
with Outlook. Office Home and Student 2007 contains a copy of Outlook, which
I decided to launch (made more sense than going with OE, I thought). I've had
difficulty trying to get Outlook activated ever since, although I can use it
by bypassing the activation screen.

The larger problem is that I am running out of free uses of Outlook. (I
believe I'm down to four.) So I'm using web mail to access my e-mail account.
A bit of a hassle, as you know. I need to get this issue with Outlook
resolved once and for all.

Well IE and Outlook Express is part of the operating system (in its basic
meaning) niether are an optional extra.

If you have a new PC it is important to find out if you have a trial version
of Office installed.
When you open eg Word, in Help>About what does it say?
In Outlook, Help>About what does it say?
(Its Application Version I'm looking for)

Hey, DL.

Thanks for the follow up. I believe I have resolved the matter, but will
wait a few days before declaring victory.

Here's what happened: After loading Home and Student Office I went snooping
around the hard drive for some application files so I could place shortcuts
on the desktop. (I've done this many times before with other software that
didn't place icons on the desktop after loading.)

Much to my wondering eyes did I see a file for Outlook. It wasn't supposed
to be on the Home version of Office 2007, but there it was. So naturally I
opened the file and started using it.

The reason I couldn't activate it is that it's not supposed to be available.
(Why it's on this version of Office, I don't know.) To make matters worse, at
least one of the guys at the store suggested I could use it.

I finally got through to a tech support guy at the store who told me to make
OE (which was loaded on the machine initially) my default browser. I did
that, and so far all is well in paradise. Fortunately, I was able to activate
the Office programs, though I had to call Microsoft to do it.

Happy Tuesday.

Office H&S doesnt include outlook, which means that you have a trial version
of Office installed which you should have uninstalled prior to your
installing H&S.
PS OE as your default email application, not browser which is IE
