stop folder opening on new email

In Outlook 2003, whenever I get email that gets routed to a folder which is
not showing right now in the tree view on the left, the folder above it
automatticly expands to show the folder.

Is there any way to stop this behavior so that the tree stays collapsed?

The "pleasing users" is to always let it be their choice. A check box "[ ]
Expand [ ]Do NOT Expand" would be quite satisfactory on both sides of the
fence. It is narrow minded attitudes that bog down world class advancements.
Thank goodness the entrepreneurs who started these marvelous companies had a
vision that saw things such as this as a challenge to help their valuable
customer instead of a drudgery "there is no pleasing users" as if us "users"
are an enemy. How sad for someone so obviously talented. I hope maybe it was
just a bad day.

Personally, I think this is just another example of how easy it is to read
more into posts than are actually there and how difficult it is for a simple
newsgroup post to convey all the nuances that conversations normally entail.
I interpret Milly's post completely differently, but part of the reason is
that I know Milly and her sense of irony and sense of humor. This same thing
happens to me all the time when someone takes literally something I've
intended to be tongue in cheek or sarcasm.
I do find it ironic to see a request for a feature when the opposite
behavior is requested far more frequently. I agree it would be nice to make
many features optional, but before long, a program can have so many optional
features that it becomes a real chore to set up. It makes me realize how
frustrating it must be to be a developer trying to make a product be the
best that it can be.
I do not find it rude to include a gentle reminder that the answers to most
posts already exist and can found more quickly by searching the groups, but
that's just my opinion.

At any rate, just remember how easy it is to misinterpret a post when you
can't see someone's eyes or hear their tone of voice. Let's all do our best
to maintain a thick skin and a robust sense of humor.

Thanks Russ - that was exactly my take on the situation and I was laughing
when I read the post since I see about 99 requests for the opposite behavior
and then this one came up. It appealed to my sense of irony and it was a
Friday.

As for the .asp/mvp - it appears what I have heard about this bunch is true.

It's important to remember that there is no pleasing everyone - no software
company can build in *everything* people would like - software would never
get released, and products like Outlook would be even more bloated than they
already are. I would also like to be given the option to expand the folder
or not to, but it isn't really that important to me - it's more of a minor
annoyance.
