Storing a copy of Office CD on hard drive?

B

bruce

Can I store and install from a hard drive my Office XP? How do I make a file
that will do a unassisted (including the product key?)

Can Rules and Email accounts be setup by script?

What can I do for the Update CD?

I have a terrible time with limited space and want to archive the CDs, but I
do need to reinstall from time to time.

The same is true of Publisher.

Does it matter if they are OEM or not?

Thanks
Bruce

|
Yes, you can setup an adminstrative installation - you will need to get a
copy of the tools from the Office Resource Kit, available on the Microsoft
Office site for free. For how to setup an installation with the key already
entered, again, see the Office Resource Kit.

| Can Rules and Email accounts be setup by script?
|
No, rules cannot be setup by script. Email accounts (if using Exchange) can
be setup in the CIW.

|
What "Update" CD?

I've never used the Office Resource Kit, but I've made admin installs before. I placed the CD in the drive and ran setup with a switch. Go to START>RUN and type "setup.exe /a" and it will look like it's going through an install. It'll ask you where you'd like to store the files and once given a place to do so, you're on your way! It asks you to accept the EULA and enter your 5x5 cd key. After that, one can run the install from the newly created administrative install point. Note, you may not be able to install Office Updates on the machine. It may give you an "error" stating that you've installed office from an admin install point and that you can't get the updates as you normally would. This install point can be slipstreamed with updates and from there you can update "client machines." If you want to know more about slipstreaming, do a search for it in here or on the support sites.

Hi Bruce,

I would like to add a supplement. :)

When you creat the Office administrative point, you need to have a Office
CD with Volumn license key. Based on my experience, OEM doesn't meet this
prerequisite in this scenario.

Hope it can address your concern.

Sincerely,

Arnold Gao
