strange formatting, when pasting from an html document

When I paste some text from various html docs to word, I
see little o's hovering between the words when I have the
"backwards P" selected. the words next to these characters
act as one and can't be split to different lines. Does
anyone know about this how to change the format back, other
than deleting each o and adding then pressing the space bar?
