Style problem with Word 2007 in Vista

Hi,

This is a friend's new Vista desktop which she just installed Office
2007 Professional.

We have setup a few styles.

When I high-lighted a paragraph and click on one style, the paragraph
didn't get formatted. Instead, a new style is created. For example,
if I have a style called "Centered Text" which is using Arial 14. I
select a paragraph which is in Times New Roman and I want to format it
to "Centered Text". So I clicked on "Centered Text" style. The
paragraph didn't change. Instead, I got a new style "Centered Text +
Time New Roman 12 pt" (something like this.)

Could anyone help what went wrong? And tip to fix?

Eric.

Hi Eric,

Don't highlight the paragraph, just click so that the cursor is within
the paragraph and then apply the style.

If you highlight the paragraph, Word creates a character format based
on the paragraph format which is what you are seeing.

roharr,

Thanks for the pointer.

It turned out my problem was caused by the in-correctt language
encoding setting in Windows XP. Word cannot find the fonts the styles
use. Once language setting gets corrected, it works fine and your
pointed way is the right way to use style.

Eric.
