styles tags not working when using "insert as HTML" Outlook option

I have used <style type=text/css> tags in my html file. I
want to insert the file using the "insert as html" option
when sending, however it does not seem to recognise the
styles defined and defaults the text to Arial when
inserted. The style tags work ordinarily if I open the
html file in a browser for example so the only problem is
when sending as html format.
Any tips please?
