Sum of tasks total duration

Considering operation of 2 vessels (A and B), vessel A needs to support
vessel B during a certain period of its tasks.
Can the duration of vessel A activity be automatically calculated based on
the sum of a range of tasks previously designated?
Trying to be as clear as possible, what I am trying to do is to set MS
Project to adjust automatically the start and finish date of an activity
based on total period of other activities?

It sounds as though you are talking about a hammock task. If you set
start and finish milestones at the beginning and end of the group of
tasks which vessel A needs to support then you can copy a dynamic link
from them to the start and finish dates of the support activity for
vessel A.

To do this, copy the start date of the start milestone and then use
Edit/Paste Special/Paste Link to the start date of the support activity.
Similarly for the finish date.
