Synchronization Problem

John Forbes

I'm using Groove 2007 across 3 computers, having used the "set up account on
another computer" option. Two of them use Vista, and one uses XP
Professional. This worked just fine the first time I did it - but
now Groove won't synchronize. It says that it's downloading the workspace,
but nothing happens - no data comes through. I've tried cancelling and
re-starting the download (using Get Workspace), but that doesn't work either.

Does anyone have any suggestions for how I can "force" the synchronization?

Thanks in advance!

Check your firewall settings in both the machines.
Make sure the Groove client can traverse through the firewall (exceptions).
Also, clear all prior traffic data in queue (use grooveclean in the Groove
bin directory - use this judiciously as it may have more adverse effect).

Hi John,

You use your Groove account on 3 PCs. This requires particular
attention during the setup.

In order to check whether your Groove account is properly setup on the 3
PCs, select launchbar menu: options/preferences/account
All 3 PCs should be listed. Check on each PC.

In case not all devices are listed, here are some guidelines:

- Install Groove on PC1 and create your account. Save account as file
(let's call it "file 1").
- Install Groove on PC2 and use file 1 to inject your account. (PC1 and
PC2 will communicate and send information about devices)
- Save your account as file again (file 2)
- Install Groove on PC3 and use file 2 to inject your account. (PC3
will communicate with PC1 and PC2 and send information about devices)

If you use file 1 (created on PC1) for injecting your account on PC3,
you will have a problem as PC2 and PC3 will not know each other.

It is quite possible that the dowload problem is related to this...

Best regards,
Jan Talens

Thanks Jan. All PCs are listed, but as a last resort I might re-install and
try this.

Apparently, there are particular issues for installing Groove on multiple
computers. See -

Is it only a particular workspace that is stalling? If so, make sure the
workspace isn't over 2 GB -- that is the maximum size that Groove can
transfer at once, so a workspace can grow to over that size and stay
synchronized, but once it is that large it cannot be sent to new computers or
new members.

If the workspace is smaller than that, it may help to delete the workspace
on the computer that is not receiving it (use "Delete > From this computer),
and then use "Invite my other computers" on a computer that has it.

I hope this helps!

Thanks for this. None of the workspaces are over 2Gb - in fact they're quite
tiny, because I've only put a spreadsheet and some .pdf files in there for
testing.

I'll definitely try the second option, but I've noticed that the problem
seems to be intermittent. For example, yesterday everything was fine on all
PCs - but this morning all of the workspaces except for one have
synchronized, and last night only one of them synchronized.

I'm thinking that I might delete everything and start again...
