tab settings in text boxes dont respond

using ppt 2000

im setting tabs in text boxes and the text does not
respond to the tab settings. tried highlighting text
specifically or not, but it still responds to its own
preset tabs settings. very annoying. any suggestions?

Just a thought, have you centered the text in the box by any chance.
Normally when you set a tab in het ruler all preceding tab settings the
little grey lines disappear. I did notice though that this behaviour does
not always occur sometimes I have to set two tabs to make the preceeding
standard tabs disappear. I am using PPT 2003 here so there may be a
different behaviour in PPT 2000. Maybe somebody else will have better ideas.
