table and cells taskpane

I can't get table and cell taskpane to activate. it is there bu
everything is greyed out can't use any of the options. Does anybod
know anything about this? TIA. Sonj

If they are on, turn off "Reveal Tags" - View->Reveal Tags
Remove all shared borders from page - the layout templates will not
work with shared borders.
