Task duration not netting when resources added.

I searched the forum for this answer but couldn't find help. I hope I'm not
duplicating any posts.

I continue to have intermittant difficulties with the above issue. There
are times when I add tasks (Example: 16 hrs duration), and then add 2
mechanics with 100% availability with the task. SOMETIMES the task duration
nets to 8 hrs and SOMETIMES it stays at 16 hrs. I've tried to open NEW MS
Project files to test this and it acts differently many times. There are no
global settings set up. In my working file I've tried to un-link, un-indent
and reset the entire file to As-Soon-As-Possible constraints JUST in case I
inadvertantly forced something.

I hope someone can tell me why this is happening so I can work with it. My
HOPE is that adding 2 men to a total task duration will decrease that
duration.

Thanks in advance!

Hi,

When you add resources to a task that has none attached, the task will react
as fixed duration. So even when you add both resources at once the duration
will not change.
To the contrary, when you allocate one resource, enter, then allocate a
second one and when the effort driven option is on (task information,
advanced) duration will adapt.

OR, when you insert the Work column into your task view, and enter the 16
hrs of work BEFORE allocating resoruces, then even if you allocate both at
once duration adapts.
