Task Notes object icon not displaying

In Project 2003 I want to add an excel file or word document to a task.

I open the task information dialogue box and go to the notes tab.
I click on the insert object button and select create from file
Navigating to the file, I select and specify Link and Display as Icon.

Click on OK to return to task notes

However, although the notes section shows the word Document or Worksheet,
the icon itself is not displayed. I have seen this work OK on other machines.

Please can anyone suggest a reason for this and a possible fix?

Hi CarlSprake,

I'm sorry to say, I believe this is a bug with Project 2003 and Office
2003. It works fine on my machine running Project 2003 and Office XP,
but I have seen the exact error on machines with Office 2003 and Project
2003. I've done a quick search of the Knowledge Base for Project 2003
but haven't been able to discover a fix yet. If I stumble across one,
I'll post here.

Do make sure both your version of Project has the latest service Pack
(SP2) and your version of office is the latest SP (I believe SP2 as
well.)
