Template Task Pane

Is there a way to prevent the task pane from appearing upon opening a new
document template? I would also like to know if I can get my templates to
default to the list appearance as opposed to large icons when opening the
templates window.

Goto:
Tools
Options
View
The upper Left check box controls the "Startup Task Pane"

****View Options

On the right side of the "General Template Window" (above
the word Preview)
there are 3 buttons that control the view format for the
window.
