text box random movement

Rodney

I am trying to move text boxes that I have inserted into a
word document. In the text boxes are excel graphs that I
cut and pasted into them. I have completed the draft and
need to move these text boxes into position. Whenever I
try to move one of them it flies off to another part of
the document. I have no idea what to do here. I tried
anchoring but that didn't seem to help (although,
admittedly I don't know how to use it). It seems this
should be straighforward, click drag, place. But word just
won't let me put them where I want them

Hi Rodney,

Are you using multiple columns in the document?

In Tools=>options=>View turn on the display of the
Word object/graphics Anchors and on the Standard
Toolbar in Word turn on the show/hide (pilcro) icon.

In print layout view select your textbox (dotted edge
border when selected) and look for the symbol of the
anchor. Is it tied to a text paragraph or a table cell?
Can you drag the anchor to the paragraph that you want
to use?

You may want to try using the 'disable features not
available in Word97' choice in Tools=>Options=>Save
to decrease some of the variability in where the anchor
will 'catch' and see if that helps.

Do you have other content in the textbox besides the
graph (i.e. is there a specific reason for using the
textbox rather than just the object?)

Hi Rodney,

Which version of Word is this?

Have you applied any textwrap formatting to the graphs? Or
were they objects on a spreadsheet in Excel?

How about inserting the graphs WITHOUT using text boxes, and
formatting them with text flow formatting?
