text box

I received a PowerPoint that when opened, it shows the correct date each
day. the puzzle is: I think it is just a text box. There is no macro, VBA
or any of the other stuff I don't understand. I think it is a textbox and I
just copied and pasted the textbox to a blank PowerPoint and it still shows
the correct date each day. How is this done and can it be done with the
time?
thanks

Sure, easy enough.

Create a new presentation. Insert this little macro and point an action
setting to it. Run the show and click on the text box. The current time
show be displayed. The textbox will update to the current time at the start
of each slide show, but will not update it between slides during the show.
If you copy and paste this textbox to another presentation, it will retain
this behavior (just like the date one you are seeing).

=====Begin Code=====
Sub WellNow(oShp As Shape)
oShp.TextFrame.TextRange _
.InsertDateTime ppDateTimeHmmss, msoTrue
End Sub
=====End Code=====

Dee,
It's easy to recreate it.
1. Draw a shape on the slide.
2. Select it.
3. Select "Insert | Date and Time..." from the menu.
4. Tick the 'Update automatically' option from the dialog
5. Selec the date format and click on OK.

If you go to View > Master > Slide Master, you can go to Format > Master Layout
and make sure that the Date placeholder is checked. Then go to View > Headers
and Footers and check "Date and Time" and check "Update automatically". Then
click on Apply to All. Return to View > Normal. You should see the date on all
slides. Once that is done you can also set individual slides separately if you
don't want the date to display on them by selecting the slide and going to View
Headers and Footers and unchecking the date and time.
