Hi Simon,
Using the MS Draw 98 add-in for Word 97 would be one method for
containing all of the parts of a map or other drawing. It's available
for download from
http://microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=BA0F1778-B1FF-48F1-8302-4893EE8120B9
and enables you to use Insert=>Object=>MS Draw to have a 'canvas' to hold all of the shapes.
You can also use Insert=>Object=>Microsoft Word Picture as a container
for all of the shapes.
You can drag or copy and paste your existing elements from the Word
document 'layer' to the canvas of either the Picture or Drawing canvas
and work on them there.
You can 'collect' the existing elements in a couple of ways, in edition
to the shift+click - shift+click method. One is, while in
Print Layout view use View=>Zoom=>Whole Page then use the white arrow
icon on the drawing toolbar (Select Object) and draw a 'lasso' with the
tip of the arrow around all of your shapes (assuming they're all set
to the same 'float over text' setting) and the lasso will select everything
inside the rope line.
Another is to use Tools=>Customize->Commands dialog, select
'Drawing' in the left pane and then from the right pane drag the
'Select Multiple Objects' command to the drawing toolbar, next
to the white arrow icon. The Multiple Objects Command will give
you a choice of all or which items to select.
Once all of the objects are selected you can use the 'Draw' button
on the Drawing toolbar and then 'group' the objects into a single
entity ( if you're not using a canvas where you may not need that
step)

Hi,
Is there a way (in Word 97) to select all the textboxes and drawing
objects on a page without holding down the shift key and selecting each
one? Kind of like a "Select All" but for text boxes and graphics.
Also, Is there a way to combine all the text boxes, lines, etc. into
one object that can be pasted into another page and re-sized? I've
created a map and I want to paste it onto another page as on object.
Thank you.
