Text boxes are automatically linking in word

When I am embedding figures into a word document, when I add text boxes, they
automatically duplicate or link to other previously created text boxes. when
I delete the new one, all prior ones delete as well. However, there is no
actual link to break (when I check in the control panel)

This is in all documents, not just one (or ones from a particular template)?

try naming your Normal.dot template to NormalOLD.dot, start Word and see if the
problem persists.

If it does, tell us which version of Word you're using.
