I am using publisher 2003 and, I am trying to create a document. As I copy
the first page into the second, my text seems to be attahced. If I change it
on the second it automatically changes on the first, and visa versa. What is
the trick?

What did you copy from the first page to the second? It can make a
difference and explain the issue your having. I'll bet it wasn't "just a
plain vanilla text box".

I used a quick publication template. When I created the second page, I just
copied the page with all of the same objects. Does this problem have
anything to do with master pages?

It's changing because you are using "smart" text boxes. These smart text
boxes are built into the templates. I recommend you create your own text box
on the second page. This will give you a blank text box with no attachment
to the first page text box.
