Text in task bars

How do you type text inside a task bar? I have tried using Bar Styles, Text
tab and then typing my text in the Inside box but it wants a field.

Is there any other way apart from a text box?

I am using both Project 2000 and Project 2003.

Use one of the custom text fields, like Text1. Just select it from the
same menu. To enter text into it, create or modify a table to have
Text1 in it. Enter your text there.

Thank you Dave. Is it possible to centre the text inside the bar? The
normal alignment icons don’t seem to be available.

I don't have Project available on this computer, so someone correct me
if I'm wrong, but I don't think you have alignment options on the Gantt
Chart.

Dave is correct - this facility isn't there. However, you could type in
spaces.

When a task name is too long, it doesn´t fit inside the bar. Is there any
solution, like wrapping the text inside the task bar?

Strenger,
See my response to your later question. To answer your direct question,
no, Project doesn't have the ability to wrap text in a task bar. I
suggest you use a spare text field and write an abbreviated name and
then put that in the bar.

John, thanks for your information. By spare text field you mean a Text Box?
That one found on the Drawing toolbar?
Thanks in advance.
Streger.

Streger,
No, fields in Project are the underlying Project database fields that
hold all the data. Text boxes are simply a graphical adjunct to the
display. Fields are viewable in Project by displaying them as columns in
a view. For example, the Task Name field is normally the 2nd column
shown in the Gantt Chart view. One of the spare task text fields, (there
are also independent Resource and Assignment text fields if you really
want to get confused), can be added to a view via several methods. One
simple method is to select a column heading and right click the mouse.
Select "Insert Column". Then select a spare text field (e.g. Text1) on
the Column Definition window. To make the text in the spare field
display in the task bar, go to Format Bar Styles. In the lower portion
of the Bar Styles window, select the spare field to show in the bar.

Hope this helps.
