Is there a way to have my text scroll horizonatlly across the slide without
downloading an add-in?

Click on the text you want to animate, In PowerPoint 2003
you can go to Slide Show > Custom Animation. Click "Add
effect > Entrance" then select Fly in (from Left) option.
Return the the original text that you want to animate.
Click "Add effect > Exit." Then select Fly out (to
right). For both of the above, select your speed -
probably medium to slow.

Make sure that the exiting text is marked to
appear "After Previous" --without a delay.
