somehow, Frontpage 2002 captured a password I was changing with my webhoster.
Now it only types the word as asterisks. I can't even type it here because
will turn out the same way. Please help!

This is going to be difficult, because FrontPage can be known to be a bit
extreme, and you have to be careful about how you approach it, because it
might hand over the captured password to Al-Quaeda, and you know what that
means! As the presidential election is over, it is less likely, as beheading
a password isn't likely to influence any near-term elections we may be
having. Your best bet is to wait until our troops can find and capture
FrontPage, and if you're very lucky, you may get your password back
unscathed.

Regarding my previous reply: My apologies. I just couldn't figure out what
the heck you were talking about, and neither could anyone else here. Perhaps
you could rephrase the question? See, the problem is that FrontPage doesn't
type, and it doesn't "capture" passwords. It will remember the last password
you typed when opeining a particular web site. So, your question is
confusing at best as it now stands. Care to try again? Give us the little
details about what you did.

Look in the HTML source of 'your file' and you will find an HTML input
element that is defined as <input type="password" />. Change that to
type="text" noting that when you do it will allow anybody peering over your
shoulder to read the password as plain text. The attribute value could
probably also be changed using FrontPage itself. You won't be able to change
the HTML on a webpage being hosted by somebody else such as your hosting
provider.

Or maybe you'll find <input type="password"...> if you are not using XHTML.
Why use XHTML if you don't need it, anyhow?

XHTML is now *the* standard for HTML

So is HTML4.01 and an HTML 4.01 page coded to a strict doctype is far from
sloppy.

There are good reasons for not using XHTML is you are just trying to hit an
arbitrary standard, viz: http://hixie.ch/advocacy/xhtml

Well the larger question is why such asessements have not come into the
public eye and are not being discussed widely? At least I have yet to ever
observe any discussion in any of the other newsgroups, lists, forums or
blogs.

I dunno. Flying with the zealots usually distorts your view a bit. The
same is true with CSS. It's a very cool tool, and can simplify your life as
a web developer beyond description, but when you learn how to use a hammer,
everything looks like a nail, so to speak.

I do know that when I see pages/sites using it 'just because', I usually
also see pages/sites that have problems to solve.
