I have been trying to write a formula that will search for the occuranc
of any of the members of one field within each of the cells of anothe
field and return the value of the adjacent cell in the same row to a
arbitrary list.

Any ideas?

Sounds like a VLOOKUP is what you're after but a more detailed description

Can you be more specific?

What do you mean by field? A column in a list/database?
You say "members". What is a member?

Please give an example of what's in the "one field" and what is in the "cells
of another field"
