Time Calculation

I am a little confused on how best to handle a concern. A task is setup for
two weeks because it is scheduled to be done within that two weeks. There
may be multiple tasks setup for the same time and assigned to the same
resource. The actual time for the resource to do the task is only a day,
maybe day and a half. I want to be able to keep the two weeks identified
until the task is completed, but schedule that resouce for the multiple
tasks, up to the total amount of actual work time available. Any thoughts?

The duration of a task is not the time allowed for it to be completed in or
the time frame within which it must be done. The duration is your estimate
of the actual time that will be required to complete the task once work
begins on it, the length of time the resource will be actively engaged in
doing the task's work. If I have a task that requires a resource to put in
one day's worth of work and must be completed sometime within the next 2
weeks, that is NOT a 2-week duration task - it is a 1-day duration task with
a deadline 2 weeks away. The schedule shows the date and time the resource
should begin work on the task, then adds the time that will actually be
required to do the work and calculates when it will be done so the next task
in line can be scheduled to start. So enter the task in the schedule as a 1
day duration task, double click on the task id number, select the "Advanced"
tab in the form that opens, and set the deadline date field to the date by
which you need the resource to have finished it.
