Time / date formats stay the same in different project files.

Why does the date format as set in Tools...Options stay the same for
different Project files even though I set them differently in each individual
project file?

BB,
Because the Date format setting under Tools/Options/View tab is a Global
setting, that is, it applies to Project, not an individual file. Some
options do apply only to individual files and those are noted as such in
Tools/Options (e.g. Tools/Options/View tab/currency options).

Thanks.

Can I create an *.MPT file in the organizer to fix the format for different
files or is that just the way the software is designed? If so how?

Hi BB,

I would record a macro changing all the settings you need and transfer it
via the Organizer into the Global.mpt for use on all files.
You might like to have a look at my series on Microsoft Project in the

Thanks.)

BB,
I'm not sure Mike answered the question. If you are asking if there is
some way to have different date formats for each Project file, then the
simple answer is "no". As I said, the date format is a global setting.

Now, if you pin me down to the ground, I'll tell you it can be done but
it will neither be convenient nor simple, so basically just go with my
first answer.

Thanks again. I may try the macro. It's just too bad that the software will
not allow a simple file specific date format. It sounds like the simplest
solution is just to change the date format each time I use a different file.
I have several files I use for long range planning that extend out all year
and I have one that I use for daily scheduling that I like formatted for
different times during the day.
