I am trying to build a timed display with a CD. I can't seem to get it to
work. The timed display without the CD works find but when after I set up
the CD to start playing and I hit F5, the CD starts but the only screen that
is displayed is the very first screen in the sequentce, ie. the timed
display quits working. Plus, when I click the first screen, it does not move
to the next screen. It like the only screen in the slide show is the first
picture.

Appreciate some help on this one.

Thanks..

I'm wondering why there hasn't been a response to my "Cry of Help?"

Can it be that the answer is so obvious no one is bothering to respond? If
so, please do, because it's not obvious to me.

Can it be that the problems is so difficult no one knows the answer? I doubt
that. There's a lot of folks out there that are great at solving these
problems?

If you need additional information, let me know and I'll try to give it to
you.

I really would appreciate some help on this item. I continue to work on it
myself and ALWAYS end up with the same failure scenario.

Or it could be the fact it's the holiday weekend and most are off having a
good time. <g>

Hi Bruce,

As Sonia mentioned, check your music settings. Also check that the 'Use
timings if present' option is selected on the slideshow set-up screen.

Have you set all the slides to advance based on a timing? Have you
unchecked the manual advance option? Do you have huge graphics on the
following slide that may be causing the next slide to load very slowly? Did
you use rehearse timings?

If you type '2' and hit the enter key, does the show then advance?

You will want to keep in mind that PowerPoint does not hold timing very
well. It probably will not hold a tight timing on another run or especially
on another machine. If you need tight timing, then you may want to look at
Story board or Window Movie Maker.

It's possible that it's as simple as the info at:

Sonia:

Your suggested fix solved my problem. Now, one unexpected item. I have
continuous play set for the slide show. When it cycles back to the first
slide, the music restarts at the beginning again. I had hoped that it would
just continue. Is this something I can live with?

Thanks for your help.

Bill:

Sonia's suggestion worked. I'll try to answer your questions.

Have you set all the slides to advance based on a timing? Yes
Have you unchecked the manual advance option? Yes
Do you have huge graphics on the following slide that may be causing the
next slide to load very slowly? My graphics are jpg files around 30 k
Did you use rehearse timings? I didn't know what they were, so I didn't
"touch" them.

I don't need "tight" timings. I have it set for 4 seconds. 5 or 6 seconds
wouldn't hurt me. This is a "free running", unattended, display of
photographs I'm creating. All I really need is that they cycle. If I
couldn't get the background music to work (which, with Sonia suggestions now
works) I would have set up a CD player behind the laptop and let it go. This
is for a wake and will only be used once.

Thanks for the comeback.

Bruce,
Solution for the repeating sound problem:
Insert a blank slide in your presentation. Put the music there in the same
way that you are currently inserting it. Hide that slide. Give it a 0 second
transition. Remove the song from what is now slide 2.

When you run the presentation, open PPT, and start the presentation playing
from slide one (your hidden slide). It will start the music and run the show
as you want. When it gets to the last slide, it will loop back to slide 2
(since slide 1 is hidden). The music will continue without restarting.

Kathy:

When I set the first (blank) slide to "0" transition and click "Hide Slide",
the first slide is visually skipped but the music does not start. If I leave
"0" transition and unclick "Hide Slide', the first slide is visually skipped
and the music plays. When the Presentation cycles back to the beginning, the
music start again from the beginning.

What am I doing wrong? I have PP 2002..

Thanks for the help.

Um, what you did wrong is ... Nothing. I made an assumption in my advice
that the transition would wait until the music started (because it waits on
animations). My guess is that it didn't wait long enough.

You need to give the slide time to start the animation. To do that, re-hide
the slide and set the transition to a little longer.

I increased the transition time to various amounts until I get to 30 secs.
Still the same effect.

When it cycle back to the beginning of the presentation, the music resets
and starts from the beginning.

Any other suggestions?

Yup - one more.
Try creating a custom show that contains slides 2-last. (That's done in
Slide Show--> Custom Show). Next, set the default show to be the custom
show. (That's done in Slide Show--> Set up Show.) Does the music continue
when it is run from slide one this way?

If not, can someone else help out? I know that we have a hint somewhere
about how to do this, but I am running in too many directions right now to
be able to find it.....
