Tivo-like audio recording in OneNote, 5 second buffer for record.

Brent Yager

I have really come to enjoy the benefits of using OneNote during my many
business meetings. I do believe audio recording is an important feature;
however, I'm always too late when attempting to record that "something
important" comment.

As a developer, I know this might be difficult ... but nonetheless this
feature would prove invaluable. With Tivo-like recording functionality, I
could count on my machine to be constantly recording a meeting or
conversation. If I select to record, I would like the previous 5+ seconds
recorded before the time I requested. This way I could be sure that what I
wanted to record wasn't missed. "Buffer time," or audio time-shifting, would
be much appreciated. If I don't ever click record, then that recorded time
will never be "permanently" written to the machine ... just like Tivo!

That's an interesting idea, but difficult to implement in a practical way
I suspect. You could always just get in the habit of recording
everything. :)

Brent,
Once OneNote is recording, you have control of the when the click markers
are set. If you go to Tools--> Options-->Audio and Video, you will see an
entry in the middle of the page that says:
When playing linked audio and video, rewind from the start of the paragraph
by the following number of seconds:

What I do, is let the thing record the whole meeting and then click and type
"Important" or some other self trigger when something is said that I need to
find later in the audio. Play with it and let us know if that does what you
want it to do.
